Woman had never been as lucky as they are now with respect to breast enhancement options. With the recent developments as well as the progress made in finding more and better alternatives to the traditional breast surgeries. This has come as a great delight to most women who are concerned about their rather small breast sizes. Non-surgical methods of breast enhancements has been greatly embraced by many particularly as a result of its efficiency and guaranteed level of success. They have a great level of advantage over surgical breast implant options. We will tend to look at more of the great benefits that a woman stands to enjoy when she decides to go for non-surgical methods as against breast augmentation.

Non-surgical breast enhancement method are cheap in so many ways as there is no need for the customary huge consultation fee which are usually paid for surgical breast enhancements. When advertisements are made on surgical methods of breast enhancement, most clients are rather meant to believe that there is going to be a one time payment for the surgery. But that is not the case in reality. After undergoing these breast augmentation surgeries, you are expected to come back for check-up at time intervals. These check-ups are not in anyway cheap and can leave a big hole in your pocket. These check-ups are very necessary and not avoidably if you really want to be free from complications. These breast implants could sometimes break which will lead to leakages even after a seemingly successful breast augmentation. So even if the operation is initially free from issues and disorder you still need to visit your surgeon as what you have in your breast are artificial and needs to be checked from time to time.

The question now is if these operations are truly cheap and safe, why these hidden charges? A non-surgical option of breast enhancements requires no monitoring and hidden cost as the fee is an up front payment for the application. More and more woman now prefers to go for non-surgical options because they not only get full value for their money but won’t have to visit the surgeon for expensive breast implant check-ups.

One other vital advantage that non-surgical breast enhancement has over the more popular breast augmentation, is usually in the area of complications. Definitely every reasonable woman will do all she can to avoid breast complication in its totality. Horror tales and stories associated with breast surgeries have become very common these days. This complication ranges from breast leakage as we mentioned earlier to implant displacements. Others are chronic pains and breast failure which is more common with celebrates that engage in routine workouts. We have heard cases of breast infection during recovery periods after breast surgeries. This is a period where you are expected to restrict your self from your normal duties in order to have the implant position properly to your breast.

Unlike what you have in non-surgical methods, you don’t need to worry about complications as there is no introduction of artificial sustenance to your breast. You just feel very natural while you enjoy the beauty and comfort that goes with your newly improved breast size.

Tough Fluff

Walking down a major city street with my date the other day, we passed a sex store and there in the window was a skinny little mannequin with HUGE breasts wearing a skimpy teddy. “Wow!” I exclaimed. “Even the mannequins have boob jobs!”

My mind slipped into mammary mode. Aren’t these fashion humanoids meant to represent us? Weren’t they essentially made in our image? If so, our image sure has changed since I was a young girl. I remember seeing mannequins naked in store windows and musing about their lack of sexuality – no nipples, no pubic hair or specific genital shapes to get excited about. (Not exactly like the male form I saw in a Bloor window recently with a humongous package distracting from his tiny Speedo, but that’s another story).

My date offered the usual, “Men don’t care what size they are.” But still, I thought, this buxom creature was trying to represent the “ideal”, a seemingly impossible body shape that can now be ours with a bit of starvation, a death-defying dose of anesthetic, and a lot of dough.

Which came first, I thought, the mannequin or the implant? Were these fake females morphing from flat to booby-licious in reaction to the current craze in breast augmentations? At the Department of Surgery at U. of T., professor Walter Peters, also a cosmetic surgeon, clearly thinks this is the case. “Ten years ago everyone wanted to be a B size. Now everyone wants to be a C, some even bigger.” Today’s augmentations, he says, are more “natural,” but back then “they were hard and stood up like volcanoes.” Hmmm, I thought, I was lucky if mine stood up like knocked-over traffic pylons. In the last five years, he says, “the number of these operations have increased 500%.”

So what exactly is the relationship between private desires and merchandizing ideals? Alison David, assistant Professor of Communication and Design at Ryerson University, says mannequins, “always represent a mathematically abstracted and perfected body.” Measurements for garments and mannequins, she tells me, were based on stats gathered after WW2 when Western populations were at their thinnest after years of food rationing. Many countries like France and the UK have been updating, with 4-D body scanning projects (see the London College of Fashion site for an example) to gather more realistic data on proportions. “I believe these stats reveal that breast size in particular has increased over the past half-century. Have you thought about the effects of growth hormones in meat?”

I do some deductive reasoning. I’m a full-out carnivore. My breast size has steadily decreased over the past decade. My stats just aren’t adding up. With the amount of steak and chicken I’ve consumed, I should be sporting double Ds!

I get a little reassurance from Mike Xu at Rox Studio, a New York-based display mannequin design and manufacturing company. Many of the forms used in the west, he says, are made in China and the proportions haven’t changed much. Still, his firm does manufacture one model of a sexy mannequin with big breasts. Customers, he says, order these for all kinds of businesses — furniture, cars, bakeries…” Whoa, whoa. Stop! Now I have to think about boobs while I’m buying my buns?

I suddenly became confused. Isn’t a mannequin supposed to be like a good waitress? You know, she never flirts with your boyfriend or lets too much cleavage spill? I could have sworn the one on Yonge threw my date a wink and I don’t remember being struck by the clothes. All I remember is these huge…”What exactly is the function of a mannequin, anyway?” I ask Xu. “To show off the garment,” he says. “Well,” I say, “some just aren’t doing their jobs. They should be fired, clearly.” Unruffled, Xu replies, “Some of them are there to catch the eye.” And that’s why they’re still employed.

Steve Kaufman, editor of VMSD, an online merchandising design magazine tells me that manufacturers customize their models for certain chains. Some retailers in the American market, for example, realized that the Hispanic population was growing and needed to be represented. “At the same time,” he says, “JLo was becoming a visible star so one company manufactured mannequins with larger butts.” In general, he says, it’s true mannequins are becoming more curvy, “but I can’t say that across the board the old shapeless ones are being replaced. The one you saw was gimmicky. It was fringe.”

I mull this over. In ten years I have gone from having a “perfect” B cup, to a cup short of adequate. I imagine myself with larger, more “natural” breasts. I wonder what it would cost to get a couple of 350cc silicone gels. Oookay, that’s where I draw the line. I review both the madness of my fantasy and the size of my bank account and surmise I’m far better off exercising personal responsibility. I’ll practice a little tough fluff and be grateful for the body I have – even if it is, like, so ten years ago. This is just fashion, I muse – fickle and cyclical. I need to hang onto those vintage items. In ten years, my beautiful Bs will be in vogue again and hey, at least they’ll be originals!

Abdominal Pain – Adhesions?

0

By Karen Steward

So your stomach hurts again. You’ve been to countless physicians, yet you continue to come up empty handed. No answers to your pain. You’re weary of doctors who have suggested that you have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). You’re even more weary of doctors who have received the results of all your tests (lab, scans, MRI’s) and have concluded that you are “normal”. And you have learned to brace yourself. For when the tests are normal, you are chalked up as a psychotic patient. One who definitely needs further evaluation–just not on your stomach. Yes, dear friend, you are not ill. Your belly does not hurt. You are only weird, spooky, and…that dreaded word…crazy.

Well, we can’t throw all the doctors under the bus (just some of them), for doctors have been taught to rely on tests! And, this is exactly what the majority do. When the tests do not deliver the necessary answers to pain, the physician may not look further, rather he (she) quickly makes a determination about you. Unfortunately for the adhesion sufferer, that determination is often insulting…and almost as painful as the illness of adhesions itself.

My passion to share about the illness of adhesions came about as a result of my daughter’s fourteen year struggle with severe and chronic abdominal pain; in addition to other symptoms: nausea, vomiting, back pain, pelvic pain, headaches, feeling short of breath, and severe fatigue. She walked doubled-over; always guarding her extremely sensitive stomach with her hands. More often than not, we were met with resistance from the many physicians and specialists we sought out in hopes of finding one who would find the answer to her very real, debilitating, pain.

Adhesions, bands of internal scar tissue, are foremost known among physicians to be an iatrogenic illness, meaning caused by the physician or by medical treatment. Surgery is the number one cause of adhesions, yet many patients preparing for surgery have not been informed of the risk of adhesions.

Adhesions can also form in the body as a result of infection or inflammation. Appendicitis, peritonitis, sexually transmitted disease, trauma to the body (including surgical trauma) and radiation are other means by which adhesions may take hold in the body. Adding insult to injury, adhesions cannot be seen on standard medical tests, thus the average adhesion sufferer spends 7-10 years in search of an answer to his (her) pain.
